WHAT IS A DIGITAL REPOSITORY?

A digital repository is a collection that gathers and permanently stores the results of scientific research, intellectual and creative papers of a certain institution (institutional) or papers on the same scientific topic (thematic). In this way, the digital repository increases the visibility and citation of the works themselves, contributes to the transparency of the work of the institution that launched the repository, and encourages and accelerates the sharing of information in the scientific and academic community. By storing them in a digital repository, the works are permanently protected from loss.

EFOS REPOSITORY

The repository of the Faculty of Economics and Business in Osijek stores undergraduate, graduate, specialist, master’s theses and doctoral theses. The repository can also store other scientific and professional papers, papers by authors from the institution that transfer rights, publications of the Faculty of Economics and Business in electronic form and other digital publications according to the needs of the faculty.

The repository can be accessed via the internet address: https://repozitorij.efos.hr/https://repozitorij.efos.hr/, and the papers in the repository can be accessed by logging into the system using the AAI@EduHr user ID. The repository has been fully open-access since 2021.

A reference collection is literature for the quickest and easiest search of the necessary information, meaning of words or instructions for further search of information for homework, report, etc.
It is recognizable by words arranged usually in alphabetical order, which are explained or represent a certain meaning in their own right, i.e. they point us to something or indicate or explain something.

Collections of reference literature are special collections in almost every library, and they include the following:

  • in the narrower sense: dictionaries, lexicons, encyclopedias, spellings,
  • and in a boarder sense: atlases, grammars and various manuals

The reference materials are not borrowed but users can come and use them in our reading room.

Online collections of reference literature such as the Croatian Encyclopedia, Proleksis Encyclopedia, Film Lexicon, Croatian Biographical Lexicon, Croatian Family Lexicon, etc. can be found on the Miroslav Krleža Lexicographic Institute.

CROATIAN LANGUAGE DAYS EXHIBITION

The library of the Faculty of Economics and Business prepared an exhibition for the Croatian Language Days.

“Croatian Language Days are memorial days for the events from 1967, when the Declaration on the Croatian language was signed and published from 11 to 17 March.

Those days are dedicated to the linguistic culture of the Croatian literary language. Since the care of language culture does not belong only to institutions, but to all of us who speak Croatian, it is the cultural obligation of all of us to mark the Croatian Language Days – with a lecture that we can hold or listen to, an exhibition that we can set up or view, we can warn against unnecessary loanwords that surround us, remember the rich linguistic history – all in order to raise the level of language culture and awareness of the Croatian language as part of the national identity.”

  • Sanda Ham (JEZIK, journal for the culture of the Croatian literary language; 63, Reviews)

The exhibition is decorated with ceramic letters of the Croatian Glagolitic script.

New exhibition “Change Starts with Us” – Human Rights Day 2017.

Human Rights Day is celebrated every year on 10 December. It is the day when the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948. For the first time in the history of mankind, the right of all people to “life, liberty and security without any discrimination” was recognized.

This year, Human Rights Day celebrates the seventieth anniversary of the adoption of the document that distinguishes the inalienable rights of all human beings – regardless of race, sex, religion, language, political, national, material or other basis. Since then, it has been translated into more than 500 languages.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights enriches and empowers every individual. The principles discussed and officially formulated in 1948 are still relevant today. The emphasis is on the individual’s will and initiative to represent their own and other people’s rights.

It is important to take the initiative in everyday life and support the rights that protect us and thereby promote the connection of all human beings.

With this in mind, the EFOS library has decided to welcome this year’s Human Rights Day with a new exhibition where we will think and learn about equality and freedom.

Croatian Book Month 2017: All in one place

Croatian Book Month 2017 was officially opened in Crikvenica on 13 October 2017. The sponsor of the event is the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia, and the organizer are the Libraries of the City of Zagreb.

This year’s theme is encyclopedic as a place where all knowledge is gathered: https://issuu.com/knjinicegradazagreba/docs/mhk_programska_knji__ica_2017issuu./

We have prepared a list of domestic and foreign online encyclopedias. Find out why you should use an encyclopedia rather than another source!

“Literacy Today” exhibition: International Literacy Day, 8 September

This year’s theme of International Literacy Day is “Literacy in the Digital World”. The goal is to reflect on the types of literacy that are needed in a digitally mediated society and to explore effective literacy policies and programs in accordance with the possibilities of the digital world. The background of this year’s theme is the UNESCO declaration on inclusive and equal education and lifelong learning,  Education 2030: Incheon Declaration and Framework for Action.

Digital technologies are fundamentally changing the way we live, work, socialize and learn at unprecedented speed. They provide new opportunities to improve all aspects of human life including access to information, knowledge management, networking, social services, industrial production and the way of working.

However, those who do not have access to digital technologies and the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities could end up on the margins of digital society. Literacy is definitely one of those skills.

The fact remains that today in the world, despite progress, at least 750 million adults and 264 million minors still lack basic literacy skills.

It is up to us to take advantage of the environment we are in! We have selected books that can make it easier for us to move in the world today. With the exhibition, we covered topics such as lifelong education, digital economy, speaking, presentation skills, public speaking, e-learning, media culture, verbal and non-verbal communication, and business communication.

The “What’s new?” exhibition in the Library

One of the main goals of the library is to provide access to a variety of information to help in professional and private activities and the advancement of the community. Researching the literature undoubtedly broadens the horizons and forms the opinions and attitudes of the community.

As a higher education library, we are mostly based on material that is represented in the study plan and program. However, it’s a rather mixed bag. From children’s picture books and fiction to psychology, sociology and philosophy.

Where do we find information and how do we navigate it? Why do we do it? Librarian work is based on good organization of information – book and non-book materials. For the last few years we have been working on online catalog an online catalog of the materials we own so that you know what you can borrow and use. From printed materials, journals and books, to electronic sources. We are working on a repository of final, graduate, scientific and similar papers that you can access at any time. We prepare and collect literature for users’ professional topics from a huge number of sources. We archive it and organize it... At the end of the day, we are sure that we do all this precisely for the benefit of  the community, scientists, students... – users.

Since new material is constantly arriving, we decided to single out the books that have arrived in the last few months. “What’s new?”, you may ask. Come, ask and – see for yourself!

“Children’s literature as a second calling” exhibition

The library of the Faculty of Economics and Business in Osijek participated in the Creative Treasury in 2017 with the topic “Children’s Literature as a Second Calling”. As part of that event, a round table was held as well as an open exhibition on the mentioned topic. The works of Dubravka Pađen Farkaš, director of the Osijek City and University Library, and professors Antoaneta Klobučar, Ivana Barković Bojanić and Jasna Horvat were presented.

The authors of children’s books, for whom this is not their primary occupation, reflect on the alchemy of the literary word. They are statisticians, mathematicians, professors, librarians, and also writers. Likewise, it is considered whether words as a supreme art translated into children’s books are precisely the eternally sought after elixir. The entire oeuvre of children’s books by the above-mentioned authors was collected and displayed at the exhibition.

“Think about equality” exhibition

As part of International Women’s Day 2017, we present to you an exhibition entitled “Think about equality”. It tries to encourage a dialogue about gender equality through the materials of the Library of the Faculty of Economics and Business in Osijek. Various materials about women in the economy, the issue of inequality and the fight for women’s rights were exhibited.

The idea of celebrating International Women’s Day appeared at the beginning of the 20th century, during the era of industrialization, which often led to protests due to poor working conditions. Even today, that holiday should not lose its ideological basis and become a consumerist holiday, but represent a celebration of the economic, political and social equality of women. The library, as an institution whose role it is to spread democratic ideas, encourages its users to think about gender equality through the exhibition and provides relevant sources on the aforementioned.

“ Evolution of library activity through the years” exhibition “Evolucija knjižnične djelatnosti kroz godine”

As part of the celebration of the Croatian Book Month, we present to you an exhibition entitled “Evolution of library activity through the years”, which, through the displayed titles, aims to promote and show the changes that have affected libraries. The exhibition is a vivid display of the successful adaptation of traditional library values to a new, modern environment. Through the exhibition, we follow the development of the librarian profession during the transitional years and see a departure from the classic pattern, which is complemented by the acquisition of new information knowledge and skills. During the exhibition, you can learn about the library’s basic tasks, professional processing, their mission, as well as the role and tasks of the library today. Librarians are presented as mediators in searching for and delivering the necessary information and relevant sources, as well as experts and users of social media, digital repositories, databases and online catalogs, which at the same time confirm their role as executors in the process of lifelong learning.

Book Face

Book Face is a creative and fun way to promote books and reading. The cover of a book or journal becomes a challenge in which participants must harness their creative skills to create an imaginary situation and environment and become someone else, at least for a little while. The initiative has already become a global trend among libraries, and many interesting examples can be found on this topic on websites, Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr and Pinterest profiles of libraries around the world. For inspiration, it is enough to use the hashtag #bookface or simply browse the shelves of the nearest library or bookstore.

Humans of EFOS library

“ Evolution of library activity through the years” exhibition Humans of EFOS library was inspired and created as our response to Mr. Brandon’s first and original artistic/social idea Humans of New Yorkwhich you can find on the website http://www.humansofnewyork.com/ and on the Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/humansofnewyorkWith photographs of students, professors, faculty employees, users, visitors, demonstrators and librarians, their short stories and the background space of the Library, we wanted to bring you closer to the famous faces you meet in and out of its space, and in this way show you the other side of your Library.

A blind date with a book

The initiative was designed on the model of the American version of „Blind date with a book“, which aimed to attract as many users as possible to our Library, introduce them to the reading niche, and encourage them to read, i.e. make a guerilla marketing of sorts for the library. The books wrapped in symbolic red paper had a theme suitable for “Valentine’s Day”, while those wrapped in plain brown paper were representatives of “anti-Valentine’s” books, so to speak. The initiative resulted in a good form of promotion – connecting users and the library. Numerous users visited the library that day, supported the initiative, socialized with the staff, and chose for themselves or their loved ones exactly the book that attracted them.

We hope you will like it.

We thank everyone for their cooperation; especially to those who claimed that they do not like to be photographed and that they are not photogenic.

The goal of this project is to educate the public through libraries and library societies and spread awareness about sustainable development and the necessity of environmental protection.

The library of the Faculty of Economics and Business in Osijek joined the project in 2016 and has been participating in a series of activities since then:

  • by organizing a round table entitled“Creating green Libraries”
  • by signing an agreement with the company “Komunalac” d.o.o. from Vukovar, represented by director Igor Štrangarević
  • by occasional exhibitions aimed at informing and educating the public, spreading awareness of sustainable development and the usefulness of proper waste management and the necessity of environmental protection: “Green Library” exhibition
  • by organizing a competition for the best green library in Croatia with the provision of special prizes: Results of the competition for the best green library
  • by publishing and promoting the book “An Angel with Broken Wings” authored by prof. Antoaneta Klobučar, PhD and illustrator prof. Goran Kujundžić, Art.D.: http://www.glas-slavonije.hr/332398/3/Promovirana-zelena-slikovnica-Andjeo-slomljenih-krila
  • by promoting permaculture under the motto: “Green Library for Green EFOS”. During the closure of the library and the faculty due to the pandemic, the arrangement and design of the garden in the courtyard of the Faculty and the planting of medicinal and vegetable plants and certain low-growing fruits on the principles of self-sustainability were initiated. Teaching and library staff participated: Permaculture at EFOS in cooperation with Pevex

There is public interest in the activities of the “green library”, as evidenced by an interview in “Glas Slavonije”:
