The SYNFINITY project aims to study and enhance sustainable finance as the foundation for a green and inclusive economic transition. Using an interdisciplinary approach, the project integrates research in financial and pension literacy, demographic revitalisation, financial system efficiency, and industry profitability within the context of sustainability. The behavioural patterns of individuals and their level of financial literacy will be examined as key factors influencing sustainable financial decision-making at both individual and corporate levels. The role of financial institutions in supporting the goals of the green transition will also be assessed, along with the readiness of individual industrial sectors to operate profitably within a sustainable framework. The project aims to provide scientifically based proposals for measures to strengthen financial literacy, promote the appropriate use of financial instruments, and adjust fiscal policy to enhance the resilience and sustainability of the Croatian financial system. A team of ten experts, whose analytical competencies, valuable experience in both academic and private sectors, and diverse perspectives on financial system development contribute to advancing knowledge on this complex and challenging topic. Furthermore, their close cooperation with students on project activities adds an extra dimension to the project's sustainability and supports the further dissemination of project results across all spheres of society in the future.
The SYNFINITY project will achieve the following expected results, which will be measurable through the associated indicators of research success:
1. Number of scientific papers published in internationally peer-reviewed journals and proceedings – 12 planned during the project
This indicator directly contributes to the first strategic objective of programme funding - Raising scientific excellence, specifically objective 1.1, which is to increase the participation of public higher education institutions and public scientific institutes in competitive project funding. This is measured by the number of scientific papers in the SCOPUS and WoS databases, A1 journals, and internationally peer-reviewed proceedings for the social sciences and humanities, as the measurable result is fully aligned with the indicator for objective 1.1. Additionally, this indicator contributes to achieving all three main objectives of the SYNFINITY project, the first seven additional objectives, and indirectly to the eighth and ninth additional objectives. It is linked to all four work packages of the project, as scientific papers are expected as outputs from each.
2. Number of scientific papers written in co-authorship with foreign partners – 4 planned during the project
This indicator directly contributes to the first strategic objective of the programme funding - Raising scientific excellence. It addresses specific objective 1.3. Strengthening international scientific cooperation and activities, through the indicator of the number of collaborations with foreign partners. The measurable result fully matches the expected outcome for objective 1.3, namely, jointly published scientific papers in internationally peer-reviewed journals and proceedings in collaboration with foreign partners. Additionally, this indicator contributes to achieving all three main objectives of the SYNFINITY project, the first seven additional objectives, and indirectly to the eighth and ninth additional objectives. It is linked to all four work packages of the project, as scientific papers are expected outputs from each. It is not strictly predetermined in which work package international collaboration is possible or not.
3. Number of publicly available short educational materials – 2 planned during the project
This indicator does not directly contribute to the first strategic objective of the programme funding – Raising scientific excellence, specific objectives 1.1 and 1.3 – because the measurable result does not correspond to the expected outcomes defined by the indicators for objectives 1.1 and 1.3. However, this does not mean it is less valuable to achieve. It contributes indirectly to the achievement of all three main objectives of the SYNFINITY project, as well as to the first seven additional objectives, since it is not strictly predetermined in which area additional educational materials will be created, although they are most likely to be developed within the first work package and its related objectives. This indicator is, however, directly related to the achievement of the eighth and ninth additional objectives. As already mentioned, this indicator is most closely associated with the first work package, but it is possible in all four work packages of this project.
4. Number of disseminations of research results at scientific conferences – 6 planned during the project
This indicator directly contributes to the first strategic objective of programme funding - Raising scientific excellence, specific objective 1.1, which is to increase the participation of public higher education institutions and public scientific institutes in competitive project funding. This is measured by the number of scientific papers in the SCOPUS and WoS databases, A1 journals, and internationally reviewed proceedings for social sciences and humanities. The measurable result is fully equivalent to that expected through the indicator of objective 1.1, as scientific papers published in proceedings require participation in a scientific conference. In addition, this indicator directly contributes to specific objective 1.3, which is the strengthening of international scientific cooperation and activity, through the indicator measuring the number of collaborations with foreign partners. The measurable result is fully equivalent to that expected for objective 1.3, namely, jointly published scientific papers in internationally reviewed proceedings in collaboration with foreign partners (it is not strictly defined in advance which papers will have foreign co-authors). Furthermore, this indicator supports the achievement of all three main objectives of the SYNFINITY project and all nine additional objectives. It is linked to all four work packages of the project, as scientific papers are expected outputs from each, and it is not predetermined which will be presented at conferences and which will not.
5. Number of students and young researchers involved in project activities – 4 planned during the project
This indicator indirectly contributes to the first strategic objective of the programme funding - Raising scientific excellence, specific objectives 1.1 and 1.3—because, although the measurable result does not fully correspond to that expected through the indicators of objectives 1.1 and 1.3, some of the resulting scientific papers will have young researchers and/or students as co-authors. In addition, this indicator contributes to the achievement of all three main objectives of the SYNFINITY project, the first eight additional objectives, and especially the ninth additional objective, which focuses on engaging young talent in the project. This indicator relates to all four work packages of the project, as the involvement of young researchers and students is possible in each of them.
