Internship opportunity at EFSA

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) is seeking candidates from around the world who are at the beginning of their professional careers and are interested in working in an international and multicultural environment on projects related to science, food safety, and sustainability. Each year, around 100 candidates are selected and given the opportunity to collaborate with experts from around the world.

EFSA is located in Parma in northern Italy. It is the EU's reference body for the scientific risk assessment of food and feed safety. In close cooperation with national institutions and through consultations with stakeholders, EFSA provides independent scientific advice and ensures clear communication about existing and emerging risks.

The application process is conducted electronically, and the application deadline is April 29, 2024.

Candidates who:

  • will have obtained a university degree of at least three years in duration by the application deadline (e.g., Bachelor's degree, Master's degree, etc.),
  • have knowledge and experience in any area of EFSA's work (food safety, business administration, law, human resources, finance, communications, information technology, etc.),
  • have a good command of the English language (minimum B2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR),
  • They were not employees of EFSA until now.

The internship lasts up to 12 months and is paid, with a monthly allowance of EUR 1,463. When applying, candidates may indicate up to two areas of interest from EFSA's remit. The traineeship is carried out at EFSA's headquarters in Parma, and trainees will be guided and supervised by mentors throughout their work. The expected start date of the traineeship is determined after applications close.
