Economy and society

Semester
1.
ECTS credits
5 ECTS

Goal

Through the sociological analysis of social change, the aim is for students to acquire knowledge about the economic determination of social development, as well as the determination of the economy by the culture of a given society. Furthermore, the objective is to demonstrate the interdependence of the key components of social life – technology, economics, politics, and culture – whose individual changes occur in interdependence with the others. The course aims to develop awareness in students regarding the true effects of economic growth which may run counter to sustainable development. The development of biotechnology and the consideration of bioethics should be realised as a path towards a safer future and exiting the state of the risk society.
