
The University Mountaineering Society is organizing a General Mountaineering School in October 2024. The general mountaineering school is the basic form of mountaineer education. Its participants acquire or deepen the code of mountaineering ethics and elementary knowledge of safe movement in the mountains, learn skills that can help them in the event of an accident, and get to know nature. Also, having completed the General Mountaineering School is a requirement for enrollment in schools and courses in mountaineering specialties (guiding, alpinist, high-altitude, speleological, marc).
The program of the General Mountaineering School has been verified by Croatian Mountaineering Association and is divided into two parts:
Theoretical part - lectures held during the week, on Tuesdays from 6:00 PM - 8:30 PM in the premises of SPD Altius, Istarska 5, - STUC, 2nd floor, with projections from Croatian and world mountains and films with a mountaineering theme, and arrangements for excursions.
Practical part – which is carried out on full-day and multi-day weekend excursions in the mountains, and includes training in: mountain navigation, orientation, first aid and rescue, familiarization with speleological facilities, use of technical equipment, climbing and bivouac.
Guides Lecturers and instructors are experienced mountaineers, guides, alpinists, sport climbers, speleologists, doctors, professors and members of the Croatian Mountaineering Association.
Mandatory requirements for student enrollment are:
Admissions: application is made by filling out the online application form until the school's capacity is full (students have priority in enrollment) (https://forms.gle/h7bL1PwDX5U8W2TN7) and payment of the membership fee for those who are not yet members.
Tuition is free. The costs of excursions, overnight stays, meals and working materials (trap, compass, textbook or script) are borne by the participants.
After completing the lectures and exercises, the participants take an exam (knowledge test) before a committee composed of lecturers. The exam can be taken by participants who have attended at least 70% exercises and lectures. The completed participants of the School are awarded HPS diplomas-certificates of completion of the General Mountaineering School at a special gathering and reception in the premises.
