This course deals with business telephony, and its goal is to offer students the tools for efficient and confident navigation in various business telephone situations.
The course covers business telephony and participation in business meetings. Business skills will be perfected using audio and video materials. Students will listen to and analyse successful telephone conversations and meetings in a foreign language. Following the introduction of vocabulary and linguistic structures, students will practise their communication competencies during simulations of various business telephone conversations. When telephoning, special emphasis is placed on the following knowledge and skills: introducing oneself, establishing a connection, understanding recorded messages, arranging meetings, verifying information over the phone, and resolving complaints. Students will also practise the linguistic structures and skills necessary for participating in discussions and business meetings in a foreign language. Special emphasis is placed on the following knowledge and skills: characteristics of good and bad business meetings, leading business meetings, presenting opinions, suggestions and arguments, and accepting and rejecting proposals.
After completing the course, the student will be able to:
1. understand authentic business texts and identify specific information in professional texts.
2. implement grammatical and lexical structures in oral and written communication at the B2 level of Business German.
3. debate and critically evaluate current business topics – solving communication problems in a business telephone conversation in German.
4. apply communication knowledge and skills in specific business situations – business telephony.
