Goal

To provide students with knowledge about information and communication technologies in business and the concepts and methods of digital transformation. Throughout the course, students will acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for managing digital innovations and their implementation in business. Specific competencies are developed within seminar classes through the creation of a seminar paper according to student preferences.

  1. Concepts of digital transformation. Key features of the digital economy. The role of information and communication technology and the internet in business. Information and knowledge as the main business resource.
  2. Transition to digital business. The concept of e-business. Types of e-business. Strategic planning of e-business. Transition to e-business. Phases of e-business development. Advantages and disadvantages of e-business. Models of electronic markets. The concept of e-market. Functions of the e-market. The difference between traditional and e-markets. Participants and categories of the e-market.
  3. Business models of e-business. The concept of a business model in the new economy. Types of business models in e-business: intermediary or sales model, manufacturing, promotional, information aggregation and brokerage model, connection or membership model, business community model, subscription model, mobile business model. How to choose the appropriate e-business model.
  4. Technological foundation of e-business systems. Technologies for building e-business systems. Three-tier architecture of e-business systems (front-end, middle tier, back-end). CMS tools for website management. Metrics of e-business models. Financial, functional, infrastructure performance indicators.
  5. Platform economy. Digital skills and education.

Students will be able to differentiate concepts related to digital transformation (digital transformation, characteristics of digital transformation, methods of digital transformation, e-business, steps of e-business strategic planning, phases of e-business, advantages and disadvantages of e-business, e-market models, e-business models, technologies for building e-business systems, e-business subsystems, e-business security, and other concepts covered in class).
  2. Students will be able to analyse the technological maturity of a business and its readiness for the transition to digital business.
  3. Students will be able to propose a digital transformation strategy for a selected business entity.
