Goal

The aim of the course is to expand students' knowledge of the principles and operations of banking. Special attention will be paid to the business model and performance of banks, the role of risk, and how the macroeconomic, regulatory, and competitive environment affects a bank's strategy and performance, and how these elements are measured by external stakeholders. The course will develop students' analytical skills in terms of identifying and assessing a bank's performance and operations from different perspectives.

After completing the course, the student will be able to:
1. critically assess the role that banks play in the economy and evaluate how changes in the environment affect banks' priorities and strategy,
2. evaluate the success and stability of the bank's operations by conducting an analysis of the bank's balance sheet and profit and loss account and assess the significance of key changes in the amount and structure of income, expenses, assets and liabilities,
3. review the key risks faced by the bank and evaluate the banks' activities in their measurement, monitoring and mitigation,
4. examine the connection between global trends and the changing regulatory environment in which banks operate,
5. identify key regulatory frameworks and evaluate their impact on bank operations.
