Free rail transportation for full-time students

Based on the Conclusion of the Government of the Republic of Croatia of December 27, 2024, it introduces to free transportation project for full-time students. The project will be implemented until December 31, 2025.

Full-time students are entitled to free travel based on their HŽ Passenger Transport smart card. 

To create a smart card you need:

  • a request for creating a smart card that you can download here.
  • confirmation from the educational institution of the regularly enrolled academic year (physical or e-certificate) 
  • a color photo measuring 3x3.5 cm that must not be older than one year
  • payment of 2.65 euros for the profile/annual pass

If you are sending the request by e-mail, you must also send a confirmation of payment in the amount of €2.65 to IBAN HR9523400091510252920, purpose of payment (full-time students free of charge - first and last name), model HR00, and under the reference number, you must enter the date of payment, after which you will be informed of the location where you will pick up the smart card.

You can send your request and photo by e-mail to studenti@hzpp.hr, by mail or hand it in at the cashier's office. Find the nearest cashier's office at map.

The request for production is sent to one of the following addresses:

  • Regional Unit Zagreb, Trg Ante Starčevića 1, 10 000 Zagreb
  • Regional Unit Vinkovci, Ante Starčevića 79, 32 100 Vinkovci
  • Regional Unit Split, Obala kneza Domagoja 8, 21 000 Split
  • Regional Unit Rijeka, Trg kralja Tomislava 1, 51 000 Rijeka
  • Regional Unit Varaždin, Kolodvorska 17, 42 000 Varaždin.

A reservation ticket for trains with mandatory or possible reservation is issued in the amount of EUR 1.06.

The project includes an unlimited number of train trips from the place of residence to the place of study and occasional trips, such as day trips, trips to the doctor, vacations and other trips, in 2nd class on regular trains in the Republic of Croatia.

The project contributes to increasing student mobility, stopping emigration to urban areas and supporting demographic revitalization, improving the living standards of citizens and encouraging the use of rail transport.

The implementation of this project, along with the investment cycle in the renovation of railway infrastructure and the procurement of new trains co-financed by EU funds, will have a positive impact on increasing the use, but also the sustainability, of rail transport, thereby contributing to the reduction of the harmful impacts of transport on the environment.
