The Think 'n' Click conference at EFOS in Osijek brings interesting conversations with journalists, content creators and a workshop for young people

The tools of the modern age, the rapidly growing development of artificial intelligence and the general advancement of online tools have brought the entire population into a new state that many find very difficult to come to terms with. How to recognize all the pitfalls of digital media, stop the spread of misinformation and improve media literacy in the digital world will reveal to you Think'n'Click conference.

On Friday, December 6, 2024, starting at 10 a.m., many experts, public figures, and media representatives will highlight the importance of media literacy topics through three panels at the Osijek Faculty of Economics (hall 7), but will also focus on children's rights and the impact of social networks on the mental health of young people.

The organizer of this conference is the well-known Center for Missing and Abused Children (CNZD) from Osijek, which through its projects has been providing support to children, young people, as well as parents and professional staff for many years.

- In a time when social networks and media have become an integral part of our everyday lives, recognizing responsible behavior on the Internet and a critical approach to information is more important than ever. In order to jointly encourage change in the digital world, we have launched the project "Youth in the Sea of Media", the crowning achievement of which is this conference, where we will share first-hand knowledge and experience in the areas of media literacy. – points out Sara Smojver, head of marketing and public relations at CNZD

Think'n'Click will open with an overview of the entire project "Youth in the Sea of Media" funded by the Office for NGOs, followed by panels with some of the most famous names in the domestic digital and media scene.

The winner of the Večernjak Rose and the most famous dad on Instagram together in the first panel

The first panel at 10:30 will feature: Tin Kovacic, winner of the Večernjak Rose, and Ivan Poslon, better known as "Dad Talks". Their mission will be to educate young people and parents about what it means to use the internet responsibly and how social media affects our everyday relationships and mental health.

The discussion will also include Martin Rosner, author of the popular site Hot Paper Comics which brings together more than 115 thousand followers on social networks. His specific humor, but also his open struggle with mental health difficulties, which he talks about on social networks, will further highlight the importance of promoting digital literacy. In addition to them, the panel will also be joined by Mirna Schmidt, an experienced media professional and media literacy trainer, who will use her experience to provide practical advice for responsibly and consciously accessing information.

The spread of misinformation and the importance of privacy in the second panel

The second panel, which begins in 11:30, is dedicated to the topic of protecting children's privacy in the media. Through her many years of experience, the HRT journalist Melita Homa will draw attention to how the media can endanger the interests of children and what all stakeholders – from journalists to parents – can do to protect their privacy. Melita will show, through concrete examples from journalistic practice, how responsible reporting can contribute to creating a safer and more ethical media space.

Youth from the Safer Internet Center will explain online challenges

The final part of the conference will be directed by young people from the Center for a Safer Internet, who will interactively present online challenges on social networks. In doing so, they will look at the most common dangers in the digital environment, the challenges faced by young people, and concrete steps that the community can take to make the internet a safer place for everyone.

Organizer, Center for missing and abused children, is recognized as a leading organization in protecting children from online abuse. For 18 years, they have been working on community education, violence prevention, and providing support to victims of abuse and their families in crisis situations.

They hereby invite all interested parties – children, young people, parents, teachers and experts – to join and participate in the discussions that shape our digital future!
See you on Friday, December 6th, at EFOS!
