Course of study: BUSINESS INFORMATICS

Duration: 3 years (6 semesters)

Admission requirements: Applicants need to pass an admissions test for one of Croatian Faculties of Economics. Business Informatics course of study can be selected provided the courses of Information Resources Management and Electronic Business are chosen in the 4th semester. Participants are required to have passed the Informatics course from the 1st semester.

By completing the undergraduate course of study Business Informatics students gain general and specific skills and knowledge of business economics and specific skills and knowledge making them competent for understanding the flow of information in the modern business systems, utilizing information technologies in the business information systems and specific subsystems, designing and adjusting business applications according to customer needs, launching specific business processes and operations based on information and communication technologies, managing and efficiently utilizing information resources and for managing available information and communication resources and their implementation. The positions students are trained for range from PC operators, business application programmers, database administrators and managers to information systems managers and engineers. By integrating their knowledge of business economics with information and communication technology practices students become competent in performing various demanding jobs in the public sector and other business systems.

The study programme is based on gradually deepening and broadening students’ skills and knowledge of implementing information and communication technologies in everyday business practices. The course of study starts with developing the ability to identify the necessary knowledge, contextual differentiation, deductive reasoning and extrapolating skills and using the acquired knowledge in analyzing, synthesizing and evaluating the existing knowledge levels and the needs for new skills and knowledge. The undergraduate studies aim to develop the skills and knowledge of participants up to the fourth level (capacity to implement the acquired knowledge) which represents the desirable entry level for practice, i.e. for further professional improvement.

The academic degree received on completing the undergraduate studies is Bachelor of Economics, course of study Business Informatics.

Skills and knowledge acquired at undergraduate studies will enable students to continue their education at Faculty of Economics’ Business Informatics graduate studies or at any other of its graduate courses of study. Appropriate selection of core and elective courses allows students to qualify for continuing their education at all graduate studies of business economics as well as at graduate studies of information management in Croatia and other related studies across Europe.
