The study of Economics in Osijek began on June 25, 1959 with the establishment of the Center for Economic Studies, which became the Higher School of Economics in 1960 and, finally, the Faculty of Economics on September 1, 1961. As one of the founders, the Faculty of Economics in Zagreb provided expert support to the establishment of the Faculty of Economics and its library. Their support continues to this day.  The Library of the Faculty of Economics in Osijek was established simultaneously with the foundation of the Faculty and has been its integral part since then. During the Homeland War, the Faculty received sixteen direct hits, one of which destroyed and damaged part of the library space and library holdings.

Old Library

Today, the Library is a part of the Faculty as a separate unit responsible for the acquisition, processing, dissemination, loan and keeping of professional and scientific literature as well as providing information support for students and assistance in scientific research work for the teaching staff. The Library has a standing cooperation with the libraries of other faculties of economics in Croatia (Dubrovnik, Opatija, Pula, Rijeka, Split, Varaždin, Zagreb), as well as with individual libraries abroad (Augsburg, Vienna, Budapest, Ljubljana, Maribor, Pecs, Pforzheim). In addition, the Library collaborates with the City and University Library Osijek, the National and University Library in Zagreb, the Croatian Librarian Association, the Association of Librarians of Slavonia and Baranja, publishers, secondary schools and their teachers.
